The Start of Summer.

Day Memorial Day is traditionally considered the beginning of summer. Congress established Memorial Day to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and to have a national period of prayer and reflection for permanent peace.

The weather of the last week has weighed as heavy on many of our souls as the snow itself. This coming week will be back to more summer weather though with rain in the forecast for Memorial Day it looks like the picnics would be better planned for Sunday which looks like the best day of the week with temps hiting the 70 degree mark.

Summer is a great time to get back into your walking routine if you have neglected it over the winter. Walking helps with balance and stamina. Remember to try to take long steps when you are walking as this helps to stretch muscles that tend to shorten with rigidity. some prewalk stretches often make the walk easier with less rigidity. and more fluid movements. Time your walk so you are at the beginning of a medication dose cycle as this makes it less likely that you will have difficulty mid walk.

With Parkinson mobility problems a good walking surface really helps. Souix Park is great as it is level, has a well maintained sidewalk, has lots of points of interest and has short or long stretches depending on your stamina. The only thing I would caution is to stay to one side as you share the road with bikers who also love the area.

Welcome

This will be an adventure. The black hills Parkinson support community has been active for a number of years. This website is just one part of that community. In the coming months this site will evolve to hopefully include resources, information, and stories, that meet the mission of support. Thanks for checking us out.
